My back is very stiff today. I have a headache, too. Both of which are just making me feel kind of grouchy. It was raining like crazy when I woke up this morning. I like lying in bed and listening to the pattern of the raindrops on the metal awnings outside our windows. There's something very pleasing about it.

This evening is yoga class at Rubber Soul Yoga. I'm excited to be getting into a semi-regular yoga routine. It helps that my friend Sybil goes with me. I think Cricket is planning on attending this evening, as well. I'm much better about actually going to class if I know that someone is counting on me to be there. I'm still a little sore from Sunday's class. A good sore, though.

So glad tomorrow is Friday. Saturday Chris and I have to drive to Dublin (Georgia, not Ireland hah) to celebrate my aunt's 80th birthday with my parents and some of my dad's siblings. It looks like it's about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Athens. Not so terrible, I guess. At least we're doing it early in the day so that we won't be driving home at night... that always wears me out. I know it really means a lot to my aunt that Chris and I will be there. I'm going to take some homemade ice cream and maybe some cooked squash, too. Yum. I love summer squash. And we got an ice cream maker recently, so I have been on this kick of homemade ice cream... there is something very exciting about eating ice cream every single day. LOL.

I feel like I could use a nap but really I think I've gotten enough sleep. Actually, more than napping, I wish I was just out doing something fun right now instead of sitting behind a computer.

Update-ish

I've been on Spring Break all week. Of course, I still had to work, so it wasn't a complete and utterly awesome time of relaxation, but it was still damn nice anyway. The weather was pretty and very spring-like all week, which made me happy. I worked hard this week, but I also got out with friends and stuff. Went to Wine Night and 283 Monday night for iPod night... played some good tunes there. Wednesday I went out for a bit. Yesterday I went to Atlanta at the crack of dawn for a dentist appointment... saw the chiropractor and my parents, as well. Then I drove back and slothed for a little while. Chris and I met Cricket downtown for a bit last night but didn't stay out long. I was totally wiped out after driving to and from Atlanta in traffic yesterday. I went to bed at 10pm last night and it was awesome to get so much sleep.

Tonight Chris has gone to Atlanta to spend time with some of his good friends, so I am here alone... Right now I am cooking myself some dinner (steak strips sauteed with onions over pasta, and a baked sweet potato). While I cook, I'm listening to the newish Black Rebel Motorcycle Club album really loud, because I can. Pretty soon I will eat and watch some TV while I eat.

Later tonight, I will go out with Cricket. We'll probably start out at the Lunch Paper and then maybe go to Tasty World or Little Kings... I'm sure some other people with come out too, maybe Teresa, Sarah, Sybil, and/or Dorelan. Maybe Joel and Chris Grant will come out, too... I'll have to ask Joel when he gets home from having his tattoo worked on.

Chris won't be home until 6pm or so tomorrow, so I hope I can find someone to go to brunch with me or something.

I should take note of my weird feelings.

Yesterday was full of freaky instances. I woke up feeling a little weird and anxious... I had a slight feeling of some kind of impending doom- not the way I wanted to feel when I was about to drive from here to Atlanta in rush hour traffic.

It started early yesterday morning. I was sitting in the office, checking my email while I ate my bowl of cereal. Chris was in the kitchen cooking himself some breakfast, and he called me into the kitchen to look at something weird. When I got into the kitchen, he pointed me towards the pan that he was frying eggs in. He had cracked one egg into the pan, when he noticed that it had a double yolk. He had gotten another egg out of the same carton and cracked it into the pan after that, and it also had a double yolk! Two from the same carton. How odd.

Later yesterday morning I was on my way to Atlanta, driving down 316. I had loaded up my iPod with some new music (Mogwai and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) and was listening to the Mogwai album. I didn't know all the song titles yet, so when one came on that I couldn't remember, I picked up the iPod to check the title. It was "Traveling is Dangerous". That creeped me out a little, seeing as how I was traveling about 70mph at the time down a highway, so I skipped the track and went on to the next.

A little bit later in my trip, I was about halfway to Atlanta and had just reached the intersection with the Kangaroo gas station. The light turned red before I got to the intersection, so I stopped at the light. I was first in my line of traffic at the light, with a row of cars behind me. When the light turned green, I put the car in gear and drove through the intersection. Right as I passed through the intersection, I thought to myself "Huh... that's weird, no one is behind me"... So I glanced in my rearview mirror, notice that both lines of traffic that had been right behind me are still sitting stopped at the light. Then I see a flatbed trailer that had become detached from the truck cab go flying through the intersection, across six lanes of traffic and barrel down the incline on the side of the road. If I'd been going any slower through the intersection, it would have t-boned, or at the least, hit me. After that I just felt totally weirded out, and the rest of my drive was stressful for me, although it was uneventful.

Today, Chris cracked two more eggs from the carton. They both had double yolks. That's four from one carton. What on earth are the chances of that?

Update of sorts.

So very glad it's Friday. Actually, it's been a pleasant week... I've been in a good mood. Been doing well in school- I got a 98 on my analysis paper for my Media Programming & Management class, and a 90 on the first exam in that same class. Woo. I rock. That's in addition to the fucking highest grade in the class on my Interactive Television and Consumer Profiling paper for my Emerging Media Technologies class. Awwww yeah.

Even though school is keeping me busy, and work is keeping me busy as well, I've still been finding time to go out with my awesome new friends (Cricket, Sybil, Teresa, Dorelan, Sarah) and our other friends (Joel, Chris, Edward, Ian). I've been very social the last few weeks and it's been great... I had been wanting to be more social for a while now, and finally I'm able to do so. I feel a lot more like "myself" when I am more socially active. I know that sounds cheesy but whatever. Yay. Lots of time spent at the Lunch Paper. Poor Chris has been on night shift all week and just found out he also has to work night shift all weekend and all next week too. Gross! That will be some good money, but geeez, I know he's tired and I feel like I hardly get to spend any time with him.

Tonight is probably going home after work, eating dinner with Chris and chillin' out for a bit with him, and then heading out to the Lunch Paper to meet up with people. I'm ready for a fun night... tomorrow and Sunday I have two papers I need to write... So tomorrow morning I will get up and make myself some breakfast and then do a bunch of research for both papers. Then, hopefully Sunday morning I can start writing them. One is on IPTV and the other paper is an analysis of the show Four Kings on NBC.

I am having a bad hair day. Our tub totally clogged up and we poured draino down it this morning but it didn't completely work in time for me to take a shower before I had to go to class, so I had to pull my hair back in a ponytail... my hair really isn't quite long enough to look ok like that yet. I really wanted to wash my hair. When I get home, it will be round 2 with the draino. Fun times. That bathroom is the bane of my existence. Hopefully our next house will have a much nicer bathroom.

Man I already ate pretty much all the food I brought with me to work and I am hungry again. I want some cake.
Random update

This week is going by pretty quickly, which I'm appreciating. I'm ready for the weekend so I can have a little break. I've been really busy at work (as usual), but also busy with school. I had a big project due yesterday- a detailed analysis of a television network (NBC) and the network's parent company (General Electric). I had to analyze their strengths, weaknesses, financial situation, etc. It was very detailed and difficult... my finished paper was 12 pages. Yikes. Hopefully I'll get a good grade on it. I found out that I made the highest grade in my class for the paper I had due last week (it was on interactive TV and consumer profiling/privacy issues). That was exciting.

I think I somehow broke my toe. I need to make an appointment with the doctor to get it checked out. That toe is always causing problems, ever since I broke it almost 10 years ago and it wasn't set properly. Now it kinda sticks out and I tend to hit it on things often. Weirdly enough, I don't remember stubbing it or anything this time, but it's definitely super swollen and sore on the middle joint, so I have to assume I did something to it. I taped it up today so hopefully that will at least keep it from getting any worse.

Chris's band played their first show last Friday and it was good! I was ready for a longer set. I can't wait until they play more shows. Afterwards, we went out drinking around downtown... stopped at Tasty World and saw Music Hates You play their set and then went to the Speakeasy, where I met up with my coworker David and sat around drinking and talking with him til about 2 am. That was really nice. Saturday night, Chris, Joel, and I went out again, to the Lunch Paper and the Speakeasy. Fun weekend.

Oh, Chris's band plays live on the UGA radio station, WUOG, this coming Tuesday night at 10 pm, on the metal show, Loud Fast Rules! I think you can stream the station online if you want to check it out. Check their website, his band (Thunder King) is listed in the left sidebar.

Last night I met up with Cricket, a girl from MySpace who randomly messaged me. We had drinks at the Lunch Paper and it was a lot of fun. She is really nice and funny (and cute). It's always good to meet cool new people, especially when they actually live in the same town! She and I will probably go out again soon. I ran into Ian there, too, which was nice... I haven't seen him out lately. He told me to give Chris a big 'ol sloppy kiss for him, hahahaha. He was preparing for some dart championship or something.

This weekend I think we're going to get the house really clean. We've both been so busy that we've totally let it go and it is kind of yucky now. Joel fixed our broken toilet and our broken sink faucet, though, which was totally fucking awesome.

I'm glad it's already Thursday.

Already this week seems long

Downstairs here at work they're listening to that song "I'm in Love With a Stripper." I can hear it all the way upstairs. Awful, hahaha. That song has finally replaced "My Humps" as office joke song, I think.

I feel miserable today- I have really bad cramps that are making me want to go back to bed, even though this morning I was lying in bed going "Oh, fuck, oh, FUCK," because I was hurting so bad. Ugh. I just burned my mouth on my tea, also. Yeah, I'd really like to go back to sleep. Instead, I will work, and then rush home, create my works cited page for my paper, then rush to class and turn in the paper. Then I will go home and work on my other paper, which is due Friday, involves a lot of research and analysis, and which I have not yet started. I will be glad when this week is over- I feel all behind schedule in my classes, I have cramps, and I'm tired. And apparently, I'm grumpy, as well.

Last night I went home from work and began filing our taxes on TurboTax online. Now that we made more money this year, we're in a higher tax bracket, and damn it, if we don't owe money again. It doesn't appear to be anywhere near as much money as we owed last year, but still, I was hoping to get some back, or at least come out even.

After that, I ate a bowl of cereal for dinner and got to work on my paper. I wrote a good bit, then Chris came home from buying some drum stuff, and we went to pick up Joel from Rooster's, since it was raining and gross. We went downtown so they could check out DT's Down Under- their band has its first show there this Friday night. That place is small... they're going to blow the fucking roof off, or people's heads off. I wouldn't be surprised if the bottles of alcohol along the back start falling and breaking. When I was in their practice space the other day while they were practicing, when they hit the first few notes of their song, I wasn't prepared for the loudness, and instinctively almost jumped up and ran out of the room, I was so startled. Hahah. They're really really good, though, and I'm excited to see them play out.

Once we'd checked out DT's, we went down to 283 for a beer before I went home and finished my paper. That was much-needed. Once I'd chilled myself out a bit with some beer, the rest of the paper practically wrote itself. Ahhh. Now I just have to add my works cited page and that's one thing off my to-do list this week.

Last week I tried out an enhanced version (chapter markers and album artwork) and I'm only uploading the enhanced version from now on, so you can grab that with the usual feed:

http://technologyhatesyou.com/refractions/podcast.php (paste this url into the subscribe field in iTunes or whatever program you use to snag podcasts)

Or you can visit the website and listen there:

http://technologyhatesyou.com/refractions/

Lemme know what you think!!

Today was a good day

(I didn't even have to use my AK)

So yeah, today was good. I woke up finally feeling more normal and less bird-flu-esque, after a week of mostly being sick, running a fever, and feeling miserable. I slept an extra hour while Chris cleaned the house because he is a wonderful husband. He apparently had made coffee and I think this was the first time I've ever been woken up by the smell of fresh-brewed coffee. I mean, I've smelled it before after waking, but the smell has never woken me. It just smelled that good. Yum. After I ate breakfast, I made a Wal-Mart (ew) run for some much needed things (dog and cat food, paper towels, 99 cent socks, you know, the essentials). After that, Chris and I went to Earth Fare and got good stuff for grilling. Mmmm mmm.

Then, I came home and put groceries away and ate a snack quickly, and then headed over to Pigpen to take photos of Chris's band so that they have some actual pictures of themselves to put on their MySpace page, etc. That meant that I finally got to hear them play. And dude, they fucking ROCK. Very very good stuff. I am totally excited for their upcoming shows in April.

Once they'd finished their practice, Chris, Edward, Joel, and I came back to our house and we commenced grilling and cooking. Bobby and Sarah arrived, and then Stephen, Kris, Randy, Chris, Chris's friends, Beth, and Brian arrived over the course of the evening. We hung out here taking stupid pictures in the Photo Booth app on the iMac and eating grilled stuff and drinking. Joel wanted to use the bat that we had randomly lying against the wall of the office, so I suggest meat baseball. We grabbed some sausage, some baked potatoes, and a couple cans of PBR and headed out back. Joel went up to bat and knocked the shit outta some cans of PBR and exploded some potatoes. Good times.

After that rousing game of 'baseball', we got ourselves together and headed downtown to the 40 Watt for the Big Business/High on Fire show, which was very loud and very good.

Now I am in bed and am super fucking tired. Very looong day, especially right after being sick. I am about to try to sleep but I don't think I am going to be able to- Chris, Randy, Edward, and Ron are out in the living room drinkin' and talking and goddamn they are loud. I swear, it's possible to talk without yelling. They should try it sometime. Heh.

It's Friday! Yay. This week has seemed rather long even though I had a short work week- I was off Monday for New Years. I ran out of cereal and had to eat instant oatmeal for breakfast this morning. Now I remember why I don't like eating oatmeal for breakfast- I get hungry again within an hour of eating. Argh. I am starving now. It's 11... I think I can break out my mid-morning snack now (cinnamon-raisin english muffin and a vanilla yogurt).

Tomorrow I get my hair cut in Atlanta at Grow. I've never been there before but I've heard good things. Hopefully the haircut will be good... This haircut I got about a month ago has been the worst. Makes me mad. Maybe we can go to Aurora and get coffee, too... Not sure what else we will do. I think we're planning to head to Atlanta fairly early in the morning so we have time to do stuff around town before my haircut. Afterwards, we have to get on back to Athens- Chris has band practice.

I'm having trouble getting in the work groove today. I am tired! I was all snuggly in the bed this morning... nice and warm. It was hard to get up and walk around the cold house. I am just soo not a winter person, I always want to hibernate.

Geek dreams

I stayed up too late last night working on a redesign of my photography website. (And no, it's still not quite done, ARGH, even though I had really hoped to get it done on my last day off work) Anyway, by the time I tried to go to bed, my brain was all keyed up and wouldn't turn off... Once I fell asleep, which took me a lot longer than usual, I had dreams pretty much all night about trying to get some JavaScript code to work. Like all fucking night! Seriously. I feel irritable.

Ohhhh yeah

It's Friday! And it's almost 2006! Crazy. I am at work, but I am getting psyched for my 3-day weekend. Actually, this week's been very short because I was off Monday and Tuesday.

I've been very productive at work today so far... I came in and got started on solving a problem I was having yesterday... Seriously, yesterday, I could NOT get this thing to work... and was about ready to bash my skull in over it. Today, within 30 minutes of working on it, I had it solved. Love it! I've made some real progress on building this site today. Nice way to kick off my Friday. I listened to my latest podcast while I worked, and it proved to be good, motivating work music. I've got my little space heater going behind my chair, too, so I am feeling pretty cozy. And the sun is out today!

We had a good Christmas. My parents came over on Christmas Eve. I roasted a turkey breast and made candied sweet potatoes, steamed green beans, macaroni and cheese, and salad. It was very tasty. After dinner we exchanged gifts and took silly pictures. It was a pleasant evening. Christmas morning Chris and I woke up and exchanged gifts and then headed to Smyrna to celebrate at his grandparents' house. That was pretty laid back, too, except when Chris decided he wanted to watch part of the Sling Blade DVD we gave his grandmother for Christmas, and he chose the "Gettin the band back together" scene with a lot of 'motherfucker's and 'pussy's and such, and his grandfather got rather mad. Hahaha! Ooops. We saw Omar, Heidi and Kaya later, and then Steve and his girlfriend. It was a nice day overall.

Then I enjoyed my days off... played my new video game a while... played with the new computer... etc. Enjoyed having time with Chris. Wrangled a new cell phone out of T-Mobile. Bought an Airport Express and streamed music to the living room stereo. Watched Chris begin brewing beer! Made some podcasts. Ate a lot.

Yesterday at work, I got to order a new computer for myself. It was very exciting. I ordered a 20" iMac like we have at home, and some extra RAM. I can't wait to be working on the new machine... It'll be so much faster and I'll be running Tiger, ahhhh. It should be delivered next week. Of course I am impatient and want it NOW. We also ordered some sweet 24" Dell monitors for two of my coworkers. That's going to be kickass.

It's about lunchtime for me, and I am starving!

Finally Friday

Good morning. It's finally friday! I am eating cereal, drinking some organic black tea with a little sugar and cream, and listening to some lovely downtempo music. It's a nice way to start the day. Although, really, I need to get dressed here in a minute. It's very cold this morning, even inside my house. My hair looks bizarre because I slept on it while it was still damp last night. It's not a very good look for me. Hopefully I will be able to salvage it before I have to leave for work looking horrible.

Happy Friday, everyone. I hope it's a good one!

Looong week.

It's felt like a really long week this week. I am so glad tomorrow is Friday. And then, 4-day weekend! Woo! I can't wait to have a little vacation. Tomorrow I work 9-5 and then after I get off work, I need to finish up my Christmas shopping. I want to get something else for my dad, something to go under the tree for Chris (I am getting him a home-brewing kit, which he is actually going to pick out after Christmas, but I want to have a few things under the tree for him), a few things for Chris's stocking, and I really really need to get some prints made tomorrow to frame and give to some of our friends. I need to order those off Flickr tonight so that I can pick them up from Target tomorrow. I should do that when CSI is over.

Saturday, my parents are coming over for Christmas Eve dinner with us. I'm roasting a turkey breast, making candied sweet potatoes, green beans sauteed with garlic, a salad, and apple crisp. YUM. Maybe a pumpkin pie too... not sure yet. Maybe some other veggies/side dishes... I can't decide what else would be good. I should probably get some rolls/bread. I wish I had more time Saturday and I'd make rolls.

Chris and I actually got a Christmas tree this year. I love it. It feels so nice to come into the living room and see the stockings hanging on the mantle, the neat old nativity scene above the mantle, and a big ol' Christmas tree decorated with all my Grandma and parents' old ornaments, including all my old ornaments that I was made or was given. It makes me feel good. Kind of sad, because I really miss my grandmother, especially around holidays that I used to spend with her... but it makes me happy to have something in my house that reminds me of her and the good times I had with her as a child. This is only the 2nd year out of all 6 years that Chris and I have been married that we've actually had a tree and decorated for Christmas. It's been really nice this year to actually have money to do Christmas shopping, and to just not feel so strained and stressed. Normally Christmas is a stressful, difficult time for us. I'm glad to break that routine this year. I should take a photo of our lovely tree. It smells good, too.

On Christmas morning, Chris and I will get up and exchange gifts with each other, and then head to Atlanta to celebrate with his family. Later that day, I think we will be seeing our friends in Atlanta. It should be a good day.

Man, I am freezing. I took a shower and washed my hair and now I just can't warm up at all. Brrrrr. I keep shivering.

If you're not already a subscriber, you should check out my podcast. It's about an hour-long mix of music I'm digging, and I post a new episode about once a week. Maybe you'll hear something you like.

refractions in the plastic pulse

musical love from me to you.
